AWARD TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS

1. Male Farmer of the Year
Honors a male farmer who has demonstrated exceptional skill, productivity, and
sustainability in agriculture. This award recognizes commitment to farming excellence,
innovation, and community impact.
2. Female Farmer of the Year
Celebrates a female farmer who exemplifies resilience, innovation, and excellence in
food production. The award highlights the vital role of women in Africa’s agricultural
development.
3. Agripreneur of the Year (Male)
Recognizes a male entrepreneur who is redefining agriculture through business
innovation, product development, or value chain transformation. He must be actively
building solutions that impact farming and food systems.
4. Agripreneur of the Year (Female)
Honors a female entrepreneur making strides in agribusiness. This award is for women
using creativity, business acumen, and leadership to reshape agriculture across Africa.
5. Agri-Innovation of the Year
Rewards a product, service, or initiative that introduces significant technological or
process innovation in the agricultural sector. Solutions may include agri-tech platforms,
biotech, climate-smart tools, or supply chain innovations.
6. Rising Star in Agriculture
Recognizes an emerging talent—young farmer, agripreneur, or researcher—who is
making a promising impact in agriculture. Nominees should show potential for long-term
influence in the field.
7. Food Cooperative of the Year
Celebrates a farming cooperative or community-based food production group that
excels in collaboration, productivity, and improving member livelihoods. Focus is placed
on impact, sustainability, and food system contribution.
8. Best State in Agricultural Investment
Honors an African state, province, or regional government that demonstrates strategic
support for agriculture through policy, infrastructure, funding, or innovation. Recognizes
public-sector efforts in boosting food security and agribusiness growth.

GUIDELINES FOR NOMINEES

  • Must be based in Africa (individuals must reside or operate primarily in any
    African country; organizations or governments must be African-based).
  • Should have been active for at least 12 months in the agricultural sector, whether
    through farming, agribusiness, innovation, or policy.
  • Must demonstrate measurable impact, such as increased productivity, community
    benefit, sustainability practices, or economic growth.
  • Can be nominated by the public, peers, or agricultural institutions.
  • Supporting materials such as media features, testimonials, harvest/output data,
    innovation demos, or cooperative achievements may be submitted to strengthen
    the nomination.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

  • Impact and productivity (e.g., yield, business growth, employment creation, or
    community benefit)
  • Innovation and use of technology in agriculture or food systems
  • Innovation and use of technology in agriculture or food systems
  • Sustainability practices and environmental responsibility
  • Empowerment and leadership (especially for cooperatives and rising stars)
  • Cultural and regional relevance (e.g., preserving indigenous techniques or
    contributing to local food security)
  • Public perception, reputation, and consistency

WHAT THE JURY WILL LOOK FOR

  •  Documented evidence of work (photos, videos, press features, testimonials).
  • Alignment with African food heritage and/or innovation.
  • Quality and consistency across platforms or service points.
  • Efforts to promote food education, mentorship, or professional growth.
  • Social impact and sustainability practices (where applicable).
